disobey sign tickets
A Disobey Stop Sign charge carries 3 demerit points against your driving record if you are found guilty.
– There is a widespread belief that you must stop at the actual Stop Sign. This is FALSE! The law states that the car must come to a complete stop before the marked white line, or if there are no lines, immediately before the crosswalk or intersection.
– Another misconception is that you must stop the car for a total of 3 seconds. Again, this is FALSE! As long as the car has come to a complete stop, and you have yielded to other cars that stopped before you, it is safe to proceed.
Please see below for the penalties related to a disobey stop sign conviction:
• 3 demerit points.
• Conviction on your driving record for 3 years.
