fight your careless driving ticket
A Careless Driving charge carries 6 demerit points against your licence if you are found guilty. This particular offence is considered a major infraction and will increase your insurance rate and can as much as triple your rates for the next 3 years.
A Police officer will issue this type of ticket to someone who is allegedly the cause of an accident due to ‘not driving with due care and attention’ or ‘driving without reasonable consideration to others’. It is absolutely worthwhile to fight this ticket in court, as careless driving charges are open to interpretation; the officer’s judgment versus the defendants side of the story.
Please see below for the penalties related to a Careless Driving conviction:
• 6 Demerit Points.
• A fine between $400 to $2,000.
• A fine between $800.00 and $4,000.00 (if it is in construction zones or community safety zones).
• Possible licence suspension of up to no more than 2 years;
• Possible term of imprisonment of up to 6 months (serious offence only).
