According to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act, all persons operating a motor vehicle MUST have insurance and shall not permit another person to operate that vehicle without valid insurance.
The charge of operating a vehicle without insurance is considered a serious offence and as a result, you become a “high risk” driver by Insurance Companies. Financial liabilities associated with a charge of driving without insurance are much higher. If you are convicted of this offence, the penalties are as follow:
• First Conviction – minimum fine of $5,000 plus 25% surcharge
• Second Conviction – minimum fine of $10,000 plus 25% surcharge
• If convicted, potential minimum licence suspension of 30 days and maximum of 1 year
• Car may be impounded
